Health Care Aide Tuition Bursary Program

(Regular or Dual Credit)

The goal of the Tuition Bursary Program (HCATBP)  is to increase the number of students enrolled in a licensed health care aide program and the number of health care aides working for Alberta Continuing Care Operators post-graduation.

The following incentives for the Health Care Aide Tuition Bursary Program will be available during the term:

  • Up to $9,000 (split into two installments) – on approval of Eligible Student's Health Care Aide Tuition Bursary application form by NorQuest College and applicant signing a return of service agreement.

Eligibility

Regular Health Care Aide Tuition Bursary

  • You are enrolled in an Alberta licensed health care aide program that began on or after July 1, 2022.
  • Preference will be given if you are attending a health care aide program full-time or currently working for an identified continuing care operator  in a non-clinical capacity.
  • You have submitted a Health Care Aide Tuition Bursary application form along with the supporting documents.
  • You are willing and able to sign a return of service agreement with NorQuest College.
  • Students can apply to any post-secondary institution with a health care aide program.
  • Students completing the HCA ELL (English Language Learner) program are not eligible for the HCA Bursary.
     

Additional eligibility requirements for Dual Credit

  • You are a current high school student who is completing the first part of your HCA program in addition to high school.

Note: If you do not meet the eligibility requirements, are a PLAR student, or are receiving any other funding or sponsorship to attend an Alberta licensed HCA program (Federal or Provincial), please contact ABhcabursaries@NorQuest.ca

What to expect
  • You are required to complete an Alberta licensed health care aide program within 18 months of starting the program.
  • You are required to commence employment as a health care aide with an identified Alberta continuing care operator within two months of completing the program.
  • You are required to work a minimum of 2000 hours as a health care aide with an identified continuing care operator within two calendar years from graduation date + two months.
  • You may change employers as long as your new employer is also on the identified continuing care operator list.
  • You must report employment status and hours worked at an identified continuing care operator to NorQuest College.
  • If return of service agreement requirements are not met, you are required to repay your Health Care Aide Tuition Bursary amount.
  • T4A slips will be mailed out end of February for applicants who have received funds

Note: Repayment of the pro-rated bursary amount received will be expected to NorQuest College in a 30-day period.

The Return of Service agreement is an agreement between the bursary applicant and grant administrator (NorQuest College) which outlines the requirements that need to be completed by the applicant in order to receive the bursary funds. The agreement is in place to ensure the purpose of advancing bursary funds (increasing the amount of certified health care aides across Alberta) is achieved. Bursary recipients are to find their own employment when they graduate with any employers on the identified continuing care operator list.

 

How to get funds

You will receive the first payment of $3,000 upon submission of:

  • Proof of successful completion of courses one through five of the Health Care Aide Workplace Bursary Program.
